Hostaway is a management tool for short term rentals property managers. A customer can advertise their properties on Airbnb, Booking.com and any other channel, and manage all the reservations or messages through one single place, the Hostaway tool.
During my time in the company I have been rethinking the architecture of every page to rationalize the amount of content, proposing a new and clearer navigation model and creating an entire design system from scratch. For this purpose I have used different tools like Hotjar and Google Analytics.
During this phase we determined the number & type of the different profiles that would use the platform more often. Through interviews & social network investigation with clients, we scoped 4 main user profiles: Large property managers, small property owners (that could manage the platform at the same time), cleaners & concierges (that could have shared tasks or not), & final clients (those renting vacation properties).
Having these profiles defined, helped us understand which information was relevant for every persona that would use the platform & make dedicated section access setup.
When I arrived pages tended to have big amounts of content, and this content was displayed through accordions in never ending pages. Knowing which sections where more clicked allowed us to decide where to relocate the content within the page, and also get rid of that content that was less consulted by putting it in a deeper navigation level.
On the other hand, Google analytics provided us the most visited pages of the platform, so we decided that those would be the ones on top of the main menu, and we would leave the less visited on the bottom places.
